Creative Futures Special: Making Art Work
Event Information
About this event
How do artists establish their creative practices? Can you make a living by working as an artist? To what extent do artists consider themselves to have “careers” and “jobs”?
As part of our Creative Futures series of talks we are delighted to announce we will be hosting a very special British Art Show 9 event where artists from the Wolverhampton School of Art's AA2A scheme will be chatting about their creative practices and their career journeys so far.
The Artists Access to Art Colleges (AA2A) project is a national set of schemes, providing visual artists and designer makers with the opportunity to undertake a period of research or realise a project, using workshop and supporting facilities in fine art and design departments of Higher and Further Education institutions.
In this event artists will discuss the important benefits that art brings to our communities and society, what a career focused on a creative practice might look like, and the practical things artists do to establish themselves. They will share the challenges they have faced and give inspiration and tips to help new artists begin their careers.
This event is not only relevant to those wanting to become practising artists, but also those interested in working in cultural institutions, community arts, and a wide range of creative disciplines where self employment and portfolio working are common.
