Ever wanted to create your own jaw-dropping, book-filled hideout? Imagined Libraries, a new creative writing workshop from local writer and editor Andrew Tucker Leavis, sets out to scratch that itch.In this one-off session, you’ll work on your worldbuilding skills to design your own dream library - fantastical, majestic or sinister. Then you’ll hone your Point of View skills by writing a tense scene set in this new imaginary space.
Led by Andrew Tucker Leavis – winner of the Young Creative Awards in 2015, who now sits on the charity’s board of trustees – will lead you on a journey from ancient libraries in bath-houses, to rotating scrolls in China, to colonies of bats who live among books in modern Portugal, and into the mad library schemes of Italian medievalist Umberto Eco. And where will it take you, and what will you come up with?Like the best library books, our advice is simply: check it out.
Taking place in the former Disney Store, Upper Mall, Victoria Centre (towards the Bus Station exit, opposite Claire's Accessories), during this workshop, you'll find out how Andrew has evolved his creative practice into an emerging career in creative writing and have the opportunity to ask questions. There will also be time to get to know and network with other young creatives attending including members of Connecting Notts, a local creative youth forum.
This is an opportunity to be part of Nottingham's thriving creative community and explore how you might build a career using your creative talent. Creative Futures will take place each Wednesday during August (6th, 13th, 20th and 27th) from 4.00 - 6.00pm. Each week will be led by Young Creative Award winners with emerging or established creative careers.
This workshop is brought to you by Young Creatives Nottingham (registered charity number 1168804) in collaboration with ChalleNGe and other local creative partners, as part of a Summer Arts Pop Up programme running throughout August. The workshop is funded by Arts Council England.
