About this event

Jamal Sterrett is a performance artist with Asperger’s, using improvised movement to access and respond to sensations felt within site specific environments. Aspergers heightens his sensitivity to sensory and mental stimuli. Using it as a guide for movement, alongside the dance styles of Bruk up, Mutation and Ballet; all in which he is self taught in.

The meditational nature of Bruk up dance, turns his body into an open channel. Responding to the felt, sensory and aesthetic state of an environment. While revealing the outer and inner paradigm of its space. By allowing it to alter his personal paradigm, it transmutes his body into a channel for movement response.

Taking place in the former Disney Store, Upper Mall, Victoria Centre (towards the Bus Station exit, opposite Claire's Accessories), during this workshop, you'll find out how Jamal has evolved his creative practice into a successful career and have the opportunity to ask questions. There will also be time to get to know and network with other young creatives attending including members of Connecting Notts, a local creative youth forum.

This is an opportunity to be part of Nottingham's thriving creative community and explore how you might build a career using your creative talent. Creative Futures will take place each Wednesday during August (6th, 13th, 20th and 27th) from 4.00 - 6.00pm. Each week will be led by Young Creative Award winners with established creative careers.

This workshop is brought to you by Young Creatives Nottingham (registered charity number 1168804) in collaboration with ChalleNGe and other local creative partners, as part of a Summer Arts Pop Up programme running throughout August. The workshop is funded by Arts Council England.
