About this event
* This event is for Loughborough University staff and postgraduate students (research and taught) only *
About the workshop
This beginner-friendly printmaking workshop will introduce you to simple monoprinting techniques using printing plates and botanical materials. Through a mix of demonstration and guided practice, you will learn how to create both positive and negative impressions. You will start with black ink to explore form and texture before moving into colour, layering, mixing, and combining hues to create depth and tonal variation.
This session will offer a mindful, creative experience inspired by nature, centred on play and experimentation, with the opportunity to refine prints into a curated outcome such as a concertina booklet, postcard set, or small collection of layered prints.
No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.
About the artist
Amanda Bywater is an illustrator and printmaker, with an MA in Illustration from Nottingham Trent University and a BA in Fine Art from Loughborough University. She combines traditional and digital approaches in her creative practice, often exploring themes of biodiversity, nature, and sustainability in surface pattern designs and detailed prints. With experience as an Art and Design Technician, she brings practical expertise to her workshops, supporting participants to explore printmaking techniques and develop their own creative ideas.
Creative Health Series
This workshop is part of LU Arts’ Creative Health Series for staff and postgraduate students. Curated by Gussi Philippou, this is a year-long journey of six workshops led by artists from different creative backgrounds and culminating in an exhibition, where this workshop is taking place. Over the year, the series has explored how creative practices can boost health and wellbeing through three core themes: Flow Theory, Community and Sustainability.
