Event description

Description

In this session we will explore the power of imagination. Each of us already knows how to create things in our imagination, in rich and vivid ways, seeing colour and movement, hearing sound, sensing texture. Everything we can sense in the world, most of us can imagine too. But can we get more skillful in directing our attention around the internal world, or at transforming ideas in a smoother, more original way? And how can such imagery experiments help us to be more creative in the real world, in work and play?

Our workshop will allow you to explore and play with the use of unusual imagery in creative settings, to learn new strategies for creative thinking, whatever your creative background might be. Some of our games will happen only in mental space; we will learn how to transform, reshape and experiment with images in our minds. Others will be more physical. We will explore how imagery might interact with the external world, through play, improvisational games and exploring movement based creative tasks.

The movement games give us insight into how choreographers and dancers use imagery in their choreographic practice. But don’t worry, you don’t need any expertise or experience in dancing – we only need your courage and curiosity to explore the limits of your imagination.

The session is inspired by In the Dancer’s Mind project (http://www.dancersmind.org.uk). The experience will introduce you to a creative, imagery tool-box that can be applied to any situation that requires creative thinking, whether in work or play. It is accompanied by online resources, placing the experience in the wider context of creative practice and providing material beyond that we will share on the day. We will provide all participants with a personal set of Creative Principles cards as a souvenir and inspiration for their future creative exploration.
