Creative Journeys for New Scots | Twilight Talk
Date and time
Join an expert panel to plot the creative journeys of New Scots, past and present, celebrating Scotland as a nest for design talent.
About this event
With an expert panel bringing their uplifting stories, join us to discuss the power of creative engagement for those finding a new home in Scotland, three contrasting stories, different routes and different journeys in design for New Scots:
Lisa Mason is Assistant Curator at National Museums Scotland, Trustee of the Bernat Klein Foundation and Chair of the Dress & Textile Specialist. Lisa’s research interests include modern tapestry and design in post-war Britain. She is currently curating the exhibition, Bernat Klein: Design in Colour, which will open at the National Museum of Scotland on 5th November.
Fifi Baslim is a mother of 5, originally from Hadhramont in Yemen, unable to continue to live in her adopted homeland of Saudi Arabia. Fifi found a new home in Scotland and has pursued her love of crafts and life here, currently studying for a Textile Design degree in Glasgow.
Sewing2gether All Nations is a refugee assisting organisation based in Renfrewshire, holding regular textile workshops in Paisley. In keeping with the collaborative nature of all their work, Gabi, Corinne and the team offer a group presentation, illustrating the creative journey of local refugee families.
Our Talk commences at 6.30pm and is preceded by soft drinks served from 6pm. Our Talks are recorded: please let us know if you prefer not to be included in this archive.
