Description

The Future of Colour and Application

Creative Networks from Leeds College of Art invites you to an evening

with

Dennis Parren, Blond & Bieber and Kit Miles

Earlier start time: 5.30pm Thursday 3rd March 2016

Talks start at 6.15pm

Join us for an evening with four contemporary, innovative colour practitioners, artists and designers who will challenge and explore our perceptions of colour and encourage us to think differently about its application. Whatever your discipline within the Creative Industries colour is fundamental to the way work is developed and produced.

Dennis Parren, Blond & Bieber, Kit Miles

They will highlight and discuss the re-imagining, limitations and premise of colour from the perspective of designed objects and experiences, materiality, trends, future design thinking and process. Whether it’s the CMYK lightbulb developed by Dennis Parren, the world of interiors according to Kit Miles or Blond & Bieber, a duo from Berlin who ‘experiment’ to create award-winning textile and product designs – there will be an explosion of colour, ideas and inspiration from the speakers.

Dennis Parren

Dennis Parren

The evening will begin with a talk from Dennis Parren, his studio designs from the idea that light = everything. Without light there is no colour and no life. We use light as a material to progress and innovate the way in which we experience, think about, and look at light. We use the mystery of colour and light to create new concepts, and use cases for light to innovate, educate, inspire and amaze.

Blond & Bieber

Blond & Bieber

Following on from Dennis will be Blond & Bieber from Berlin, they are a cooperation which meets on the border between textile and product design. By means of concept, experiment and a strong visual approach the duo always choose a narrative approach to design over a purely practical understanding of production. Blond & Bieber are searching for subtle expressions of modern rituals and processes.

Kit Miles

Kit Miles will complete the evening talking about his work which is steeped in the values of quality, exquisite draughtsmanship and a futuristic, often surprising use of scale, colour and imagery.

Please join us and explore the Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design studio from 5.30pm at Blenheim Walk on Thursday, 3rd March, 2016 for free drinks prior to the talks starting at 6.15pm. Colours May Vary will have a stand and there will be an opportunity to ‘experiment’ yourself with colour by taking part in some simple colour workshops before the talks.

After the talks, Q&As will take place back in the Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design studio over a few drinks.

Booking is essential as places are limited so please book a ticket. Please note the earlier start time of 5.30pm.

Please note that the £5 fee is refundable if you attend the event. The amount will be transferred back into your account the day after the event. There is an option to donate your deposit for the future support of Leeds College of Art when you reserve your place.
