Description

THE COURSE

This two-day workshop is ideal for those who would like to improve their photography skills and capture the essence of early spring at Sculpture by the Lakes. Time will be spent photographing in the gardens and around the lakes, learning and practicing the art of producing well-composed atmospheric images. You will learn how to make the most of the crisp spring light to enrich vistas, plant portraits and abstract details and textures. We will take a closer look at the changing landscape created by all the new growth. We will consider what makes a good picture and how to get it right in camera, rather than post-image manipulation. over the two days we will cover different camera modes: programme, aperture priority, shutter speed ad if time, manual. It is suitable for those with a digital SLR or an advanced compact camera.

Objectives:

  • Experiment using different ISO settings to suit the light conditions and help bring out or minimize the colour saturation of different spring scenes.
  • Learn how to make the most of, and take some control of, the natural light conditions. Depending on the weather, gauge when and how to use diffusers or reflectors to improve your photos.
  • Take pictures using your camera in different modes such as aperture, shutter and, if there is enough time, manual.
  • Improve your composing skills and make every pixel count.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Feel confident using manual focusing.
  • Master working in aperture priority mode, understand depth of field and how it can dictate the mood of your pictures.
  • Become aware of what available light conditions suit different types of photography.
  • Learn how and when to use exposure-compensation to enhance your images.
  • Gain a greater understanding of your camera so you can get the most from it.
