Creative Repair Visible Mending workshop Ormesby Library Middlesbrough

By Louise Goult Textiles

Overview

This relaxed and informal workshop will introduce you to a selection of creative repair techniques

Creative Repair or visible mending is the art of repairing clothing and textiles with the intention of the repair being seen, celebrating the fabric and history of the textiles. Visible mending lengthens the life of fabrics, in turn caring for our environment and planet. Creative repair techniques are also excellent to update those garments we all have that just aren't 'me' any more turning them into something you'll wear time and time again.

What we will do

This relaxed and informal workshop will introduce you to a selection of creative repair techniques through creating a series of samples to inspire future visible mending projects. Working alongside other creative and like minded people, you'll explore many different kinds of repair techniques including creative patching, Boro repair and how to repair pesky moth holes. There will be lots of demonstrations as well as you creating your own unique repairs that reflect your personality.

We'll also discuss how to repair different areas of garments - knee and elbow repairs need different approaches than other areas of garments. By the end of the workshop you'll have learnt a range of creative repair techniques and have the skills and confidence to continue at home.

Embroidering in a small group will allow for plenty of support and guidance when needed, a chance to ask all of the questions you have as well as being able to get to know those at the workshop with you.

Who this workshop is for

This workshop is for those who enjoy a more sustainable approach to textiles and those who would love to explore their creativity further.
