Come and learn how to weave, one of textiles oldest crafts. You will learn how to warp up as well as basic weaving techniques. Working at your own pace you will be encourage to explore different materials, colours and textures, and if you wish, possible meanings. By bringing your own ‘frame’ with you, you will be able to take your weave home and continue your weaving beyond the workshop. Some materials will be provided and you are very welcome to bring any flexible, weavable materials you may like to work with in the workshop.

Suitable for all levels including beginners.Some basic materials will be provided, students will need to bring:

- One wooden frame. This can be one you make up or an existing wooden picture frame with glass & fittings removed before the workshop to save time. The size of the frame will be the size of the weaving during the workshop. You can bring more than one frame if you wish.

- Any flexible materials you may like to use; such as yarns, threads, fabrics, wools, papers, netting, rubber, card, plastic, ribbons, raffia, stuff… anything you have to hand! Please don’t buy anything in especially for the workshop; be mindful of recycle – reuse.

- Sharp scissors which will cut your materials

- Ruler

- Pen/pencil

Lucy Brown studied Textile Art (BA Hons) at Goldsmiths, University of London and has a Post Grad in Post Compulsory Education. She makes textile based artworks for exhibitions and commissions, and develops short and long term education projects for arts organisations, schools, colleges and universities. Exhibitions and projects include; 16th International Textile Art Triennial in Łódź. Poland 2019-20: Line/Extended at UHArts Hertfordshire 2019; 6th Riga International Textile Art Triennial 2018, Latvia; Offerings Solo Exhibition 2018 R-Space Gallery Northern Ireland; Lace Unveiled 2018 Newstead Abbey Nottinghamshire England; Unravelling Nymans, 2012 National Trust UK and Project Space, COLLECT 2012, Saatchi Gallery London UK. Lucy has been based at Phoenix Art Space Studios since 2017.
