Event description
A workshop exploring some of the ways we can bring our creativity into worship and enhance our engagement with God through all our senses.

About this event

There are a range of ways we can engage people in worship, beyond the read and spoken word. This workshop evening will look at some of the possibilities we have of enriching our worship. The focus is on the church’s main Sunday worship. But many of the options we explore will also work, and some work particularly well, on less formal and less regular occasions.

We plan to look at

  • Intergenerational worship: paying attention to needs of all ages
  • The creative use of technology (images / video / sound)
  • The use of PowerPoint
  • Movement such as labyrinths or prayer stations
  • Atmosphere and use of senses: light / sound / smell
  • Making good use of the space: using buildings effectively
  • The rhythm and flow of worship
  • Ways of praying, and reading
  • The elements of “services of the Word” and how they make sense together

As time allows, we will touch on other matters such as online worship, collective worship in schools, and the importance of how we develop an hospitable and welcoming atmosphere.

Contributors are Doug Chaplin (Discipleship and Lay Training Officer), Simon Hill (Youth Officer), Emma Pettifer (Children's Officer), and Dave Shaw (Director of Worship at Top Church, Dudley)
