Defamiliarization - the art of making the stone more stony. Defamiliarization is the technique of making the commonplace remarkable through the filter of an unexpected perspective. It forces the reader to engage their own preconceptions, increase deeper emotional contact and is a power tool in any writers arsenal.
Neuro-linguistic programming is the idea that our brains have an operating system driven by language. As a writer by selecting how you deploy language you can subtly manipulate the reader's perspective, emotions and even memory.
Join Iain McKinnon for an introduction on how to improve your prose by intruding on your reader's mind.
