Every Other Thursday Starting 04 September

Join us for a fresh season of free, informal writing workshops at Exeter Library! These sessions welcome writers of all levels and genres, providing a nurturing space to explore new ideas, build your skills, and share your work in a supportive group. Each session brings a unique theme, encouraging you to experiment with different forms and topics. Whether you're new to writing or a seasoned wordsmith, there's something here for everyone! Led by Library staff members Nat & Chris, with occasional guest facilitators

04 SEPT - Character

Kick off the new term with an introduction to the season ahead! We'll cover key techniques, do some creative warm-ups, and have a look at writing characters. Led by Chris and Nat

18 SEPT - Short Stories

With guest tutor Linda Lewis, we'll dive into the world of short stories, to examine some classics and think about crafting our own

02 OCT - Nature Writing

You’re a natural, baby. Nat leads a Nature themed workshop full of the birds, bees and trees - looking at how nature can be used to as a setting, a tone, a plot point, and a character

16 OCT - Poetry, Please - with the Bard of Exeter

Current Bard of Exeter, poet, & children's author Kev Payne offers a poetry session about place; finding inspiration from the city around us

30 OCT - Spooky Special

How to write what scares you! We'll look at some (mostly silly) examples from the world of horror and beyond, to examine how to write work about fear. A fun Halloween themed special.

13 NOV - Creative Non Fiction Revisited

Discover the world of creative non-fiction, with a look at memoir, journalism and humorous essays

27 NOV - More Poetry, Please

Your a poet even if you didn't know it. Chris leads another poetry session, with silly warm ups, serious writing and some superb examples from contemporary poets

11 DEC - Winter Warmer

In our final session we’re getting all festive, with some winter themed prompts (and probably a couple of mince pies)
