This is an on-going Theatre group that will meet fortnightly at the Cathedral Innovation Centre Portsmouth. No previous experience in theatre is required, the only requirement is a drive to tackle stigma in mental ill health and to encourage open dialogue and understanding in our community.
Do you have a lived experience of mental health difficulties or have someone close to you who has? If you are interested in theatre/drama and have a passion to help tackle stigma and aid understanding in mental health, this could be a great way to develop skills, meet new people and be part of a new development in creative education.
The aim of this group is to provide training in theatre skills and drama practice, to build self-esteem and to enable personal development within a supportive social group.
The cost is just £3 paid in cash on the night
The wider agenda of this group is to build a team that will support corporate training and public events in mental health awareness. With a focus to provide innovative education through theatre arts, the group will support public events and corporate training in understanding how to help someone who is suffering, and, to challenge negative attitudes. These events will sometimes be paid work opportunities on a job by job basis. However, being part of the group does not mean you have to do this, taking part will be an option that will be offered as and when work arises and is not a requirement of attending the group.
The use of Forum Theatre is a powerful tool in education and social change; using an interactive play to gain a better understanding of real life problems, and learn how modifying personal behaviour can benefit an outcome and others responses, Forum Theatre has become a leading tool in social change and education.
