About this event
Crediton Literary Festival 2022 is being held as a hybrid event, with author talks being presented via Zoom in the morning, with more talks being in-person in the afternoon. This ticket will give you access to the morning Zoom sessions, and also a link to view filmed versions of the afternoon talks after the event via a YouTube playlist.
Tickets are offered with a 'Pay What You Like Donation' option to support the library, or free tickets for those who can't make a donation.
The morning talk details are as follows:
10.00am: LUCY V HAY - SCREENWRITING TIPS FOR AUTHORS
Novelist, script editor and blogger Lucy Hay, creator of the consultancy Bang2Write presents a discussion and Q&A on how books are adapted for the screen. Of interest to both authors and readers alike, Lucy draws on her experience working as script editor and producer on many films as well as an author publishing under her own name and as Lizzie Fry.
11.00am: NYDIA HETHERINGTON - THE IMAGINARY STORY POOL AND THE INSPIRATION MYTH: WHERE DO STORIES COME FROM?
We are often told, especially as writers, that everyone has a story to tell. The truth is, we all have a myriad of stories waiting to be tapped into, reshaped, and told. Stories are like fossils, secreted into rocks until the hammer smashes them to freedom. And yet, so often we feel blank, desperately searching for that elusive muse, inspiration. For me, the keyboard, the notebook and the pen are the mighty blow to the granite, releasing to narrative within stone, the story from the word. Nydia is the author of "A Girl Made of Air", described by The Guardian an "an immensely assured first novel".
12.00pm: CRIME PANEL - THE CALEDONIAN CRIME COLLECTIVE
The Caledonia Crime Collective is a group of seven Scots crime writers. And they're delighted to bring their virtual Tour of Scotland to Crediton Library. Follow the group as they travel around the country used in their novels to explain local culture, history and even some trivia! So step onboard the CCC bus with intrepid guide Emma Christie as G R Halliday, Andrew James Greig, Allan Martin, Deborah Masson, Marion Todd and Jonathan Whitelaw show you their literary backyard.
Ticket holders will also receive links to the filmed recordings of the afternoon talks which are:
LILIAN HARRY - author of the bestselling Burracombe novels
VICTORIA DOWD - People's Choice winning crime novelist and expert on Agatha Christie
JANET FEW - Author and genealogist discussing the research of her historical novels.
Login details for the Zoom session will be sent to you by email the day before the event.
