Crisis Classroom Volunteer Training
Sat 29 April 2017, 10:00 – 17:00 BST
This one-day training will give you practical tools to help you become a safe and effective volunteer working with refugees or other people outside the mainstream. After a year of teaching and training teachers in the Jungle camp, Calais, we noticed that many people who were giving their time to support refugees, were unprepared for the issues they faced and the needs of the people they were there to help. We have developed this training to bridge that gap.
You will learn how to:
- recognise and manage the symptoms of trauma
- communicate effectively under stress
- use your skills to create activities for learning
- use our unique methodology to become a safe space for others
Crisis Classroom trainings use a mix of experiential and theoretical practices which are designed to be both thought provoking and fun. We treat education as partnership and welcome your contributions at all stages of training.
Although the tools you will learn have been designed as a foundation to become a Crisis Classroom teacher, this information will be useful in any situation where you are volunteering with vulnerable people.
This training is FREE to participants, but if you would like to make a donation we will use funds raised to support our pilot project to trial an inflatable, pop-up classroom in different refugee contexts around Europe. You can follow our progress on Facebook to find out where we are going and how the classroom is being used.
