Join us for coffee, tea and pastries from 8:30am, followed by a tour of Ben Sakoguchi's exhibition Critical Art Theory at 9:30am with Gasworks’ curator Rosa Tyhurst.
Mixing diverse elements of figuration, history painting and Pop art, Ben Sakoguchi uses his work to reveal subtexts of discrimination, mass media exploitation and state-sanctioned violence. Critical Art Theory is a re-telling of the art history Ben was introduced to at UCLA and explores how religion, monarchy and capitalism have shaped the development of art over the centuries.
The tour will take place in the gallery, temporary seating provided on request.
