Description

Dr Markus Reiterer

Dr. Markus Reiterer - Principal Scientist, Medtronic,PLC

Dr. Markus Reiterer holds a PhD in Material Science from Montanuniversität Leoben (AT). After a period as research associate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanical of Materials and at the Sandia National Laboratories, in 2006 Markus joined Medtronic as Senior Scientist. Today as Senior Principal Scientist, is responsible for solving development problems across the enterprise and is a member of the corporate technology roadmapping team.

Interested in in silico clinical trials, he was a key contributor of the Avicenna Roadmap, and now sits in the board of the Avicenna Alliance for Predictive Medicine, and has recently accepted to serve as External Industrial Advisor for the Insigneo Institute.

In this seminar, Markus will take us through the conceptual process of developing a new biomedical product in a large corporation like Medtronic. Using some entertaining examples, Markus will guide us in the development of a true critical thinking that accounts for all aspects, many too frequently neglected in academic settings.

In everyday life, we make hundreds of decisions every day. Most of them are small and we nearly make them automatically, but some are bigger and more complex and require more attention. How do we handle these situations and how should we handle them? Awareness and Critical Thinking skills can help us with making sound decisions. In general, we conduct research and development to answer complex questions with higher confidence. Most of the time we are constraint by limited understanding of the problem and incomplete information. In such cases our judgment plays an important role in the decision-making process. In this seminar, we will learn about common reasons, why people make poor decisions, and about common influencing factors in the decision- making process through awareness training and practical examples.
