Description

We can’t believe it’s coming up to that time again! – CRL’s renowned Demo Day will be taking place at U+I’s office on Thursday 19 July from 19.00 – 22.00.

This event will see the latest cohort of entrepreneurs on our Accelerator programme give their now perfected 5 minute pitches on their products, as well as make a call for the additional support they might need (whether that’s investment, companies to partner with, PR support, the list goes on!)

These start-ups are working on a highly diverse range of products, from eco-materials to innovative charging solutions, bespoke clocks to devices that allow women to feel more safe when walking home. We know that the hardware community in London is a hotbed of creativity and innovation, so we’re so pleased to have had a group of start-ups on our programme that represent this.

We're very excited to announce that the other industry-leading speakers set to present at the event include:

Hadeel Ayoub of BrightSign - Hadeel is a Saudi designer who spent 8 years teaching digital design courses to girls in higher education in Saudi Arabia. She then moved to the UK to pursue postgraduate studies, obtaining a Masters of Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London in Computational Arts, where she stayed on to do her PhD in Arts & Computational Technology. Hadeel’s research is focused on developing assistive technology pieces to disrupt the healthcare innovation industry. Her studies engage speech disabled participants and children with non-verbal autism. Her product BrightSign is a wearable device that allows sign language to be translated into speech.

We are incredibly excited to have Hadeel speak at demo day - not only because she is an alumni of our Accelerator - she's a true pioneer and watching her demo her product is always an awe-inspiring experience. A few of her recent highlights include: winning the Women Entrepreneurs in Health Tech Category at the AXA Health Tech & You Awards, her incredible feature in Forbes, her feature on BBC's The One Show... to name just a few. We're lucky to have her back at the event!

We're very pleased to also have CRL-based Botsandus joining us. Botsandus develop state of the art robotics and AI products by combining social sciences with human-centred design and cutting edge engineering. They make robots that seamlessly integrate into day-to-day life.

Their latest product is Bo, a customer service robot for retail, hospitality and events. Bo is an autonomous assistant that approaches customers and guests, analyses their needs, personalities and mood and helps them with key queries. It can give directions and information about the surroundings - such as tell you where certain stores are in a shopping centre, gather feedback, present promotions and many more. He is already working with global companies like intu shopping centres, Etisalat, Virgin. Bo will at the event too!

The following startups will be presenting, please read up more on them via the following link, or click through to their respective websites.

Chip[s] Board® is an eco-friendly alternative to chip board and MDF made from potato waste. Unlike its resin based counterparts, Chip[s] Board® is biodegradable post-use and doesn’t contain formaldehyde or any other toxic resins and chemicals.

Animaro is a London based design studio that combines art and engineering to create playful furniture for the home. In Autumn 2017 they launched their first product, the ‘Crane Lamp’ on kickstarter which was successfully funded and featured in Wired, the Sunday Times and Evening Standard. In Autumn 2018 they will launch the ‘Solstice Clock’, a sculptural timepiece that gradually opens and closes during the day giving a visual expression to the passing of time.

  • Ignius

Ignius is a start-up focussed on developing IoT products to address real-world issues, women’s safety being one of them. Ignius has developed a safety solution to mobilise coordinated help in threatening situations.

  • Gilaasi

Gilaasi's FineTunes are the world's first pair of fashionable glasses that you can finetune between glasses and sunglasses with a simple double tap of the frame. Tap right for sunglasses, tap left for glasses. Practical and stylish glasses wearers shouldn't have to carry prescription sunglasses to switch into when the sun shines. They also shouldn't have to rely on the alternative of photochromic lenses which are slow to react and offer you no control. With FineTunes you won't have to deal with any of that. You control the transition from glasses to sunglasses with speed and simplicity.

Drinks and canapés served. Instagram photo frame onsite!
