Event description

Description

Whilst there’s been an explosion in support for UK software businesses, product-focused businesses have been somewhat left behind. With the establishment of the British Design Fund, as well as a variety of hardware-focused Accelerators and Incubators, the tides are turning.

CRL’s London Design Festival event will offer practical advice from industry experts on how to fund, market and develop your idea, whether you’re starting out or looking to diversify an existing business.

At the event CRL’s Managing Director, Mat Hunter, will be facilitating a discussion with a range of industry experts, which is set to cover all of the key intel needed by someone looking to turn their idea into a business: from figuring out if your idea is commercially viable, to getting it into stores to what the future of the industry is likely to look like.

Speakers are set to include:

John is the Design Director at The British Design Fund: a UK focused early stage investment fund, investing in and providing support for UK product design and manufacturing companies. He is the former CEO of the Design Council with forty years’ experience in the brand and design industry, across retail, FMCG, and consultancy.

Sebastian is an internationally recognised industrial designer. He is currently CEO of Sebastian Conran Associates: a product design & development studio that provides creative vision for client partners across the world from retailers and manufacturers to researchers and engineers.

Grace is the Founder of the new SODA (School of the Digital Age): a tech retailer for high-end, innovative gadgets, which will launch online and in Selfridges in September. She understands all aspects of the industry, having been an investor, and more recently an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at LocalGlobe.

Josh is the Director of Management and Entrepreneurship at Koobe Global. Koobe is a Foxconn/Kick2Real affiliated company, they are a design and manufacturing house designed to help ambitious hardware start-ups successfully scale.

CRL is an organisation that has a genuine passion for seeking out and supporting UK hardware-focused entrepreneurs, which has been a long-standing aspiration of the part of West London we’re based in. We’re housed in the Old Vinyl Factory in Hayes, the former home of EMI records – the first place the Beatles had their records made and the birthplace of the CAT scanner – on account of the rich musical and entrepreneurial history that exists here, we’re going to make a soundtrack specifically for the evening that celebrates this. Listen out for it a the event! Read more about the history of our site here.
