The course will introduce participants to the social welfare system in southern Ireland. It will also briefly explain issues relevant to cross border workers and families; cross border taxation, healthcare, social welfare and retirement.
At the end the course participants should be able to:
- answer general social welfare enquiries relevant to southern Ireland
- effectively deal with cross border enquiries. They will be able to explain how working or living across the border can affect social welfare payments, pensions, taxation obligations and where to access to healthcare
- signpost individuals to organisations that can process their cross border enquiry
This training is provided as part of the Border People project managed by the Centre for Cross Border Studies in collaboration with the North South Ministerial Council, the Citizens Information Board and Citizens Advice Northern Ireland.
The project is part-financed by the European Union’s INTERREG IVA programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
