The requirements of the new Ofsted framework make it clear that schools should be focusing on making links across and within subjects. There has always been the expectation in the national curriculum that mathematics is not an isolated subject.

“Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed
over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is
essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary
for financial literacy and most forms of employment.” National Curriculum

As part of the new Ofsted deep dive methodology schools may need to show evidence of real application and skills in other disciplines.

Course description: The course will explore the different ways to get maths across and within the curriculum including:

  • Use of another subject within a maths lesson as a context
  • Application of maths skills in another subject
  • National/international events throughout the year
  • using school events

There will be time to audit your current provision and look at ways to map the wider curriculum to ensure that opportunities are taken to embed maths in other curriculum areas.
