Event description

Description

Are you working on Brexit related work? Come the next crit day to get some feedback and advice on your work from cross-government design colleagues.

It will be a friendly environment to share work in progress and get help that you can use immediately.

Unsure if you have the ‘right’ thing to bring? Send an email to UCD Community and we can advise. The majority of the day is spent critiquing each other’s work, so everyone needs to bring something. Please do not show up to only see what others are working on.

You can bring design work at any stage—sketches, draft content, user journey maps, prototypes, or any unfinished work. It can be interaction, service, graphic or content design. Your work does not have to be Brexit related! We’d like to encourage people working on Brexit to come, but the crit day is still open those working on non-Brexit work.

Design critiques are a great way to:

  • Get feedback from experts outside of your project and organisation
  • De-risk your work in a safe space
  • Benefit from the user-centred design community hive brain
  • See what’s going on across government and how other user-centred designers work
  • Understand how to run a design critique

Who it's for

We’d like to encourage people working on Brexit related work to attend. The event is open to people designing government services, so you might be a designer, content designer, user researcher or product manager. It’s for those looking for advice on their work and to contribute to the cross-government user-centred design community. It is open to any level of government (including civil servants, public servants, contractors and local government).

How the day will work — it only works if you bring something to crit

The day will begin at 10:30am. Please leave enough time to collect your pass, find the room, get a coffee and take a seat before it starts.

We’ll give a short introduction on how to get and give the best feedback. Then everyone will have a chance to get feedback on their work in small groups of 4-5, with 45 mins each.

You do not need to prepare anything before the day, but you should be ready to talk about the context of your work - who the users are, what the user needs are, what the organisational objective is and what assumptions have you made to create this work.

Please commit to the whole day.

This only works if we support each other and give everyone a turn to present to a crit group. If you are unable to attend for the whole event please do not take a ticket—we'll run more crit days in the future. If you are no longer able to attend, please return your ticket as early as possible—we usually have a waiting list.

You can read about how design critiques help teams collaborate in this blog post.

These are some posters about giving and receiving feedback.
