The exchange is part of a series of cross-sector Community Learning Exchanges that provides members of Scottish Community Alliance's (SCA) network - including DTAS members - with cross-sector learning opportunities, improving the resilience of the wider network and their practices through skill advancement and capacity building.

This particular exchange will be hosted by SCOTO CIC, Lunan Bay Communities Partnership and East Haven Together, on the topic of community tourism.

Exchange description

This exchange will provide you with the opportunity to visit both Lunan Bay Communtiies Partnership and East Haven Together in one day.

Meeting point for 10:45am

10:45- Lunan Bay learning exchange
12:15- Travel to Arbikie distillery for lunch
12:30 - 1:20- lunch break
1:30 - travel to East Haven

Learning outcomes

Visit to Lunan Bay Communities Partnership:

Exploring the role and impact of a community-led ranger service in improving visitor management, community wellbeing and outdoor education.

Learning how community-led projects, such as the new all-abilities viewing platform at Lunan Bay, can be delivered by engaging businesses with corporate social responsibility commitments and other key stakeholders to provide vital visitor infrastructure.

Exploring how business-led collaborations can provide sustainable income streams for community projects, drawing on examples such as the Make Travel Matter campaign with Trafalgar Travel & Arbikie Distillery Experience, and other scalable commercial models.

Visit to East Haven Together:

Participants will learn how story telling and art have been used to engage people from across the world in promoting the history and heritage of this small coastal community.

Participants will gain insight into how nudge strategies have been used to influence and change public behaviours.

Participants will learn more about how visitors value the natural environment of East Haven and are actively engaged in helping to protect and conserve the amenity.

Who is this exchange for?

Anyone who is employed by or volunteers for a community organisation that is a member of DTAS and/or a member of one of the 28 networks that comprise the Scottish Community Alliance.

To enable as many organisations to attend as possible, we are capping attendance at two people per organisation.

Do I have to pay to attend?

No. This exchange is fully funded.

Thanks to National Lottery players, Locality has received almost £1.9 million over three years from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK.

The funding will support the Connectors UK programme, delivered in partnership with DTA Scotland, DTA Wales and DT Northern Ireland. Through the programme we will bring local community organisations together, to build resilience, share innovative practice and shape their community’s future.

The exchange is also funded by the Community Learning Exchange fund, distributed by the Scottish Community Alliance.

What is funded?

Travel and/or mileage costs can be expensed. If you need to travel two hours or more (one way) in order to attend, we will pay up to £100 for accommodation and up to £25 subsistence per day.

We will provide expense forms to all attendees once the event has taken place and reimburse costs. Make sure to hold onto all receipts as these will need to be submitted with your expense form.
