Abstract

In this presentation Dr. Sebastian Seriani is going to present his research about pedestrian modelling/crowd management based on experiments and observation at existing stations in urban railways. The objective is to study the effect of crowd management measures on the behaviour of passengers at the platform train interface (PTI). Two stations at London Underground and Metro de Santiago were observed in which platform edge doors (PEDs) are used. In addition, experiments were performed at UCL’s Pedestrian Accessibility Movement Environment Laboratory (PAMELA) and Universidad de los Andes’s Human Dynamics Laboratory (HDL). As a next step a tracking tool is developed to count passengers at the PTI.

Speaker

Dr Sebastián Seriani is an Assistant Professor from Universidad de los Andes (Chile). He is a Civil Engineer with a Master in Urban Project. He did his PhD in Transport Studies at UCL. He has been collaborating with Dr. Taku Fujiyama and other researchers in the field of pedestrian modelling/crowd management in urban railway stations. His research interest also includes the design of accessibility and facilities for cyclists, and traffic calming measures.
