'Crowded Room Stamford' by Tim Mann at St. Johns the Baptist Church
Mon, 6 Mar 2017, 10:30 – Sat, 25 Mar 2017, 19:00 GMT
Contemporary artist Tim Mann is preparing to create a beautiful community portrait - ‘Crowded Room Stamford’ in an exciting initiative with ‘Stamford Arts Centre’. The project is aimed at highlighting awareness of all aspects of Stamford and the importance of its community. Over a three-week period from 6th- 24th March 2017, the artist will work with a team of champions to engage with the public and encourage them to become part of this unique portrait. These events will be hosted by St. Johns Church.
Tim, who was born and raised in Stamford, is already engaging with a range of different local groups and the plan is to take this project into several locations within the community itself. The team have already confirmed that, as well as having a base in St Johns Church in Red Lion Square, they will also be taking the project into most of the local primary schools, New College, Stamford & Rutland Hospital and the Rugby Club.
As well as the main portrait, Tim will also be creating a number of other pieces of art to commemorate this unique experience, which will be available through a sponsorship package or to buy individually.
The artist and his team will invite everyone from Stamford and the surrounding areas to come along and take part in this truly collaborative event. They hope that ‘Crowded Room Stamford’ will be a portrait of at least 10,000 members of the public and will include the outline of every participant’s body.
Tim’s enthusiasm is infectious and he has already recruited many of his local champions from different groups within the town. The District and Town Councils are fully supportive and are working with the team to help promote the project and it is hoped that local businesses will choose to be involved too. Tim commented “From the reaction I have received to my previous collaborative projects, I know the making of ‘Crowded Room Stamford’ will be extremely exciting, fun, and an informative event. Everyone involved will enjoy the experience and gain an understanding of my approach and concepts, which will give them a deeper understanding of contemporary art and its role in society today. More importantly, we will use this event to promote understanding of all aspects of the community of Stamford and the support and services it provides.”
The completed project will be showcased at Stamford Arts Centre, from 27th March to 9th April 2017. Everyone involved will be invited to the public opening to celebrate the project and the major portrait will then be put on permanent display in a public space within the town.
