Crowdfunding green, open and blue spaces
Fri 14 October 2016, 10:00 – 12:30 BST
OurManchester Shape the city you want to live in with Our Manchester Crowdfunding
A new crowdfunding scheme launched by Manchester City Council is looking to uncover ideas that could transform our city’s parks and green spaces and get more people active outdoors. The council has teamed up with Spacehive, an online crowdfunding platform, to make £60,000 available to help kick start ideas for our city.
Crowdfunding is a way of raising money for an idea by using the internet to ask a large amount of people to make small donations. The principles of crowdfunding allow people to actively contribute to projects in their area or even realise their own ideas.
Our Manchester Crowdfunding is offering the best crowdfunded projects up to £5,000 on top of the money they’ve already raised for schemes that will improve the city’s parks, green spaces or waterways or for projects getting people more active outdoors. The funding initiative forms part of the wider Our Manchester strategy that aims at giving more power and responsibility back to the people and actively engage them in shaping the future of our city.
We’ve got £60k to pledge to crowdfunding projects in Manchester alongside grants from partners including Growing a Greener Britain, Esmee Fairbairn and Better.
Residents and groups are invited to join a practical workshop led by crowdfunding expert Anne Strachan. The workshop is suitable for anyone thinking of crowdfunding.
At the workshop you can find out:
- More about the project and what you have to do
- How the match pledging works
- What makes for a successful crowdfunding campaign
If you can't attend the whole session come for as long as you can.
