About this event

The talk will be, 'Croydon Through the Early 20th Century in Postcards - an Introduction to the John Gent Bequest.' an illustrated talk by John Hickman and Carole Roberts.

'In 2012 Croydon Natural History & Scientific Society accepted a bequest from the renown local historian John Gent. This included books, maps, photographs and a collection of postcards dating from 1873 to the early 21st century. During the next seven years the speakers catalogued over 12 500 postcards after which the society embarked on having the entire collection scanned. This event is the first in a series of illustrated talks by the curators of a postcards collection that provides a remarkable insight into the social history of Croydon during the long 20th century.'
