Cruise tourism potentially offers significant benefits to businesses operating in cruise destinations in the Highlands and Islands. To help local businesses maximise their opportunities, we’re running 2 events focusing on the Shetland cruise tourism market in partnership with Lerwick Port Authority, Visit Scotland and Shetland Islands Council.

These workshops are designed to help businesses understand the market and how to access it. While the first day is an information session open to all, the second is an intensive workshop with limited places aimed at businesses looking at product development or adaptation specifically for the cruise market.

An open event for anyone interested in understanding more about the cruise sector and the opportunities it brings to Shetland.

Representatives from the cruise sector will provide insights into industry, how it works and what they are looking for in a destination, including -

The Cruise Ship Industry – Globally and in Scotland
Cruise Lines – what drives decision making, what they are looking for in a destination
How the sector interacts locally, including roles of the Port Authority, agents, ground handlers; what makes an attractive destination
Maximising opportunities & local business support available

DAY 2: **PREPARING YOUR PRODUCT FOR THE INTERNATIONAL CRUISE MARKET (Workshop*)**

This workshop is delivered by Highlands and Islands Enterprise, in partnership with Scottish Development International and is part funded through the European Regional Development Fund.

*The day 2 workshop is free of charge but is a form of EU State Aid and counts towards your overall De Minimis Aid allowance. Each company is allowed a total of €200,000 in De Minimis Aid over a three-year period (with a lower limit for fisheries and some other categories).
