Description

LUX presents an outdoor screening of Alain Guiraudie’s 2013 feature Stranger By The Lake, a French drama-thriller set in the cruising grounds around a lake in the height of summer. The screening will be accompanied by an introductory talk from Gary Needham, exploring cruising and moving image, and how the visual actions of cruising could be used to open up new possibilities and questions in relation to the pleasure and politics of looking.

Doors open 7.30pm for a 8pm start. Please note there will be no late admissions, Waterlow Park closes at sunset and all gates into the park will be locked at 8pm. All visitors attending the screening will be escorted out of the park at the end of the event.

Gary Needham is Senior Lecturer in Film and Media at The University of Liverpool. He is the author of Brokeback Mountain (2010) and co-editor of Warhol in Ten Takes (2013), Queer TV (2009), and Asian Cinemas (2006) and has written about cruising in film and art. He is currently working on a book titled Factory Girl/Factory Films: Edie Sedgwick and the Films of Andy Warhol for Bloomsbury.
