CRUK Oxford Centre 9th Annual Symposium 2020

About this event

Following on from the Centre’s announcement regarding the postponement of this years Symposium – we are excited to announce registration is now open! Our event will be taking place on Wednesday 21st October 2020 and will be hosted virtually.

The CRUK Oxford Centre’s Annual Symposium is a celebration of the wealth of excellence we have here in Oxford, and the passion and commitment to cancer research that is shared across our community. The programme showcases the breadth of activity across the Centre and features cross-departmental and interdisciplinary partnerships, supporting translational cancer research in Oxford.

With approximately 300 people attending each year, the symposium provides an opportunity for our members to network and sparks new collaborations.

The event is exclusive for Centre members only. If you are not yet a member, not sure if meet the criteria, or if you are unsure if you are already a Centre member, you can submit a request here.

As some of you are aware, the Symposium provides an opportunity for you to network, and often sparks new opportunities for partnerships. It also provides a platform to highlight the younger scientists within the Centre through poster competitions and presentations.

This years event will be slightly different as we cannot physically host the event in the Said Business School, we unfortunately are not able to host a poster competition and abstracts will not be submitted. We will be hosting a 1-day event of themed talks ranging from Non-Genetic Heterogeneity to Early Detection, we will also be featuring a New to Oxford session along with a special talk by our Keynote - Prof. Harald zur. Hausen who published the hypothesis that the human papillomavirus plays an important cause of cervical cancers. He then went onto introduce the HPV vaccine which was introduced in 2006.

Details of the programme and which platform we will be using to host the event are currently being confirmed – please keep an eye on our Eventbrite page or Centre website for further updates.

We can now confirm our Early Detection session speakers are Fergus Gleeson (Oncology), Ellie Barnes (NDM) & Gill Reeves (NDPH).

We will also be welcoming Tim Elliot (NDM), Eva Morris (NDPH) & Yang Shi (Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research) to the world of Oxford cancer research as part of our ‘New to Oxford’ session.

The official programme and full speaker list will be announced in the coming weeks.

This event is always very busy and we are hoping to accommodate as many attendees as we can. We recommend you sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as we will be taking registrations on a 1st come 1st serve basis.
