30 YEARS ON FROM THE CHILD RIGHTS CONVENTION: WHERE ARE WE ON STREET CHILDREN'S RIGHTS?

30 years on from the Child Rights Convention and 2 years after General Comment N.21 on Children in Street Situations, street children around the world are still being denied their rights. Join us to discuss the progress made and hear about innovative solutions aimed at securing legal rights, protections and opportunities for street children.

Confirmed speakers:

Philip Alston: UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights. Recently published a report on violations of Human Rights of people living in extreme poverty in the US and UK

Nima Elbagir: Senior International correspondent for CNN and award-winning journalist recognised for investigating human rights abuses and child labour across Africa

Ann Skelton: Member of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child Rights

Sessions

  • Panel discussion on how far governments have gone to implement the CRC and how this is monitored around the world
  • Panel discussion exploring what meaningful child participation looks like
  • Breakout sessions and workshops on:


  1. Using international advocacy mechanisms to achieve change for street children
  2. Using strategic litigation to achieve change for street children
  3. Collaborating with governments to achieve local law reform
  4. Participatory action research through story telling
  5. The Legal Atlas for Street Children
  6. Promoting street children’s voices in large scale data collection


A full agenda will be shared upon registration, and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The event will be followed by networking and drinks, with additional opportunities to network throughout the day.
