Description

Brook has been at the forefront of providing wellbeing and sexual health support to young people for over 50 years. Our centres in local communities, our education programmes, our training for professionals and our lobbying work means that young people are better equipped to make positive and healthy lifestyle choices. We are the only charity working across the UK and Channel Islands that specialises in working with young people to promote their sexual health in the wider context of health and wellbeing. Brook is a sector leader in developing awareness of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSA/E) and working to protect young people.


This training focuses on the specific risks of Child Sexual exploitation / abuse to boys and young men.

Aim; To develop the confidence of staff to raise awareness of the specific risks posed to boys and young men from Child Sexual Abuse/Exploitation

Learning outcomes;

Identify the forms of CSA/E (Child Sexual Abuse / Exploitation)and how these apply to BYM (Boys and Young Men)
Recognise professional responses around CSA/E to BYM compared to girls
Explore case studies of BYM at risk of CSA/E
Recognise risk indicators in BYM
Reflect on the societal conditioning of BYM
Identify the barriers for BYM to disclose or engage in services

•Understand the impact of gender and sexual orientation in the grooming process

•Explore online grooming and the use of technology

•Address BYM victim / perpetrator myths and gender stereotypes

•Understand the context of gender in the 2003 Sexual Offences Act
