Event description

Description

Commencing Monday 29 April 2019 and running for 11 weeks with a one week break at Half Term, we are offering a programme makers’ course aimed at those who have aspirations in the Industry. The purpose is to up-skill participants in all aspects of factual (non-fiction) TV production and create several ‘packages’ that can be broadcast on Cambridge TV as part of our regular output, working alongside multiple industry professionals, creating your own shows with dedicated training sessions multiple times a week.

Since many of our students work or study at the same time, the course has been designed to be flexible around people's working hours during the week. Every Monday and Tuesday consist of full day training sessions focusing on different areas of production each day, practicising hands on experience in creating programmes for TV. The hours for rest of the week are flexible around your work/study schedule as during this time we create, plan and organise other shows for broadcast with all of our resources available to use alongside working with other industry professionals.

Each topic will be practical & project-based, working on specific items either sourced by the participants or derived from the mass of potential stories available to our research team and magazine producers. Content may include:

  • Camera skills for Broadcast quality presentation using Canon C100, Canon XA20 and XC10 kits
  • Setting up a good interview, lighting, sound, vision, 1/2/3 camera shoot
  • Getting the ’Top line’ right and assembling a good narrative
  • Asking good questions on camera. Probing and follow-up
  • Editing: Getting the best from Final Cut Pro or Adobe
  • Editing: Learning how to edit to broadcast standards – finding the narrative
  • Location sound and post production fixes
  • Presentation skills, studio practice and reading from a teleprompter
  • Studio skills: Cameras, live mixing rather than editing, lighting, scheduling and broadcast
  • How to plan and make a good short documentary piece (theory & practice)
  • Treatments, scripts and pitching ideas for programmes
  • Producing and directing. What’s expected and how does one perform these roles
  • Commercial skills. Good business practice and how to get a job
  • Protecting rights and releases. Regulations, safety and good practice
  • Self-shooting workshops - training in how to freelance your skills by filming on your own
  • How to pitch an idea to a production company

Our the course we share our expertise with our students and ultimately try to help them find work in the industry.

Participants are welcome to bring their own cameras & laptops but the studios and camera kits from Cambridge TV will be available for use on the course.

Notional hours will be a working week 0900-1730 but times may vary according to events and activities covered.

The cost is £2250. Monthly payment terms can be discussed. Apply by emailing this form to bob@cambridge-tv.co.uk or calling 01223 750890 or 07785 361345.
