Professor Christopher Lowe (Introduction by Darrin Disley, CEO at Horizon Discovery Group plc)
Professor Christopher R. Lowe is in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge and researches in the healthcare biotechnology sector. He is a fellow of several learned societies, has 360 publications, 8 books and monographs, >100 patents and has supervised >95 PhD students. He has a number of national and international prizes: “Queen’s Award for Technological Achievement”; “Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education”; “Most Entrepreneurial Scientist of the UK”; OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours; BBSRC Commercial Innovator of the Year in 2011. He is also active in various government committees and in various legal and entrepreneurial roles. He has been the driving force for the establishment of 10 Spin-out companies, including ProMetic BioSciences, Purely Proteins, Affinity Sensors, Cambridge Sensors, Smart Holograms, Psynova Neurotech, Rebha, Sparq Electrical, Quantz Medical and MonoJo.
SimPrints (Winner of 2013 CUE competition)
SimPrints is a social enterprise committed to improving the lives of the poor. Accurately linking people to their digital records is a critical bottleneck in the delivery of mobile services in healthcare, microfinance, and aid distribution. We’re building a mobile biometric scanner and open-source software to empower the mobile tools used by researchers, NGOs and governments around the world.
Jon is the Managing Director of Techstars in London. Previously Jon was the co-founder and CEO of Springboard. Jon loves to help start-ups and their founders achieve their true potential. Over the last 2 years, Jon acted as an advisor to many other multi-company accelerators from Montreal to Moscow. Since launching Europe’s first bootcamp accelerator in 2009 – The Difference Engine – he helped to launch Springboard based in Cambridge and London. In addition, he has also founded ignite100, a re-invention of the Difference Engine, that combines a 13 week accelerator with follow on funding of up to £100k per team and Startup Wise Guys in Estonia, Eleven in Bulgaria and TexDrive in Moscow.

CUE is excited to be partnering with SVC2UK this year. Cambridge is hosting a series of events as part of the Silicon Valley Comes to the UK initiative. This year, SVC2C has convened a superb lineup of entrepreneurs and investors from Silicon Valley to deliver inspirational lectures and master classes to an audience of students, academics and serial entrepreneurs.
