About this event
You've gotta have a Book Club at a Book Fest!
Cult DIY band The Lovely Eggs bring their book club LIVE to Louder Than Words.
The Lovely Eggs Book Club currently has over 1000 members, bringing together a close online community of book loving Eggheads out for new and off the beaten path literary recommendations.
Unlike other book clubs, there's no set reading, it's not ponsey or pretencious and we don't drink wine!
The book club was set up through Holly wanting to find other like minded people who had a shared desire to venture further afield than the 3 for 2 tables at Waterstones. After a short tube series where Holly chatted to other readers and authors about books including Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), James Smith (Yard Act) Tor Maries (Billy Nomates), Richard Dawson, Castle Freeman and John Doran, the book club soon went live at Deershed Festival.
When hungover Holly couldn't find a special guest, she roped in bandmate, husband and Haines Manual expert David to join her and Eggs Book Club was born!
Holly and David have since taken their book club out on the road to Krankenhaus Festival where they chatted with Special Guest Maxine Peake as well as Bearded Theory Festival welcoming special guest Stewart Lee.
Join them at Louder Than Words to experience a book club like no other!
Welcome to their world. Welcome to Eggland.
About The Lovely Eggs
For The Lovely Eggs being in a band is more than music. It’s a way of life. It’s about art. It’s about creativity and expression. It’s about following your own path and doing things your own way. And it’s also about books.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, the cult lo-fi psych punk DIY band have built up a substantial loyal following, selling out shows across the UK with a number one selling album in the Official UK Independent and Physical sales charts.
Holly and David operate on their terms, spewing out music, records, art and television shows before piling in the van and tearing round the country to perform a load of live sold out shows. This year they also launched a “Lovely Eggs Book Club” which currently has over 1000 members, bringing together a close online community of book loving Eggheads out for new and off the beaten path literary recommendations.
The Lovely Eggs have produced 7 albums, the last three of which were produced and mixed by Grammy award winning producer Dave Fridmann at his studio in New York. Their 6th album “I am Moron” reached Number One in the Official UK Independent Album Charts. Their 7th album“Eggsistentialism” reached the Top 10 in the Official UK Physical sales and Independent albums charts, with their latest singles “Nothing Everything” and “My Mood Wave” both reaching Top 40 in the UK Official singles sales charts.
The pair have collaborated with Godfather of Punk Iggy Pop on single “I, Moron” which hit the number one slot in the Official U.K. Physical and Vinyl charts. Iggy Pop is a fan of the band and dedicated one of his BBC 6 Music shows to The Lovely Eggs’ work.
Holly and David have also released their own TV show: EGGS TV, embarking on a televisual odyssey through alternative art, music, spoken word and underground culture. Teaming up with artist Casey Raymond, the 6 part YouTube series sucks you spiralling down the plughole into The Lovely Eggs’ distinctly off the wall universe, featuring guests Ian Mackaye, Gruff Rhys, Stewart Lee, John Grant, Cate le Bon, Maxine Peake, John Cooper Clarke, and more.
With observational and often surreal lyrics, The Lovely Eggs have a powerful raw sound that creates the sonic illusion of a band twice their size. Described as “like reading Richard Brautigan while listening to Black Sabbath” they have become known for their ferocious yet joyous live performances. Operating in a world when true authenticity is hard to find, The Lovely Eggs are one of the most exciting, innovative and genuine bands around.
Welcome to their world. Welcome to Eggland.
