The course will benefit anyone who works with people from a minority ethnic background.
The aims of the course
This course focusses on the barriers and cultural differences that people from a minority ethnic background experience when accessing services in Scotland.
The objectives of the course
The training course will provide you with:
A better understanding of barriers in accessing services experienced by minority ethnic people
The opportunity to enhance cultural sensitivity and competence
Understanding of mental health and mental illness among culturally diverse communities
The opportunity to understand beliefs about the causes of mental illness
Cultural awareness and understanding of the impact of cultural differences
A better understanding of challenges faced by services working with minority ethnic people
Practical tools to reduce cross-cultural misunderstanding and encourage positive cross-cultural communication
The opportunity to explore new barriers affecting EE minority ethnic people after Brexit.
Krzysztof Novak and Anika Wycislik coordinate Health in Mind’s Equal Access services in Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian. They both have many years of experience of working in minority ethnic service
Terms and conditions
This course is in our Shandwick Place training room, which is not accessible for physical disabilities. Please contact us if this affects you and we will relocate the course. The course includes teas, coffee and biscuits but does not include lunch as there are lots of lunch outlet choices just beside us.

If you need to cancel your booking and give more than two weeks’ notice, we will refund your payment in full. If you cancel with less than two weeks’ notice, we will refund 50% of your fee.
