CULTURAL CITY CONFERENCE 2019

Explore, debate and further the cause of embedding culture into the future ambitions of Southampton at this unique, one-day conference, held in the city centre on 28 June 2019.

The conference will explore themes of place, community and international partnerships through interactive workshops, talks and panel discussions with industry experts, local businesses, universities and cultural organisations.

We hope you will join us to understand, discuss, and play a part in the impact of culture on the economic and social well-being of our city and its communities.

Highlights:

The conference will be hosted by Veronica Gordon (Journalist for ITV Meridian and Deputy Manager at Unity 101 Radio). Speakers include:

  • Andrew Dixon, Bid Advisor and Programme Director for the successful Hull City of Culture Bid in 2017
  • Ruth Melville, is currently evaluation advisor to Aarhus 2017 European Capital of Culture and Critical Friend on the Creative People & Place programme
  • Michael Roumen, Exec Director of Mayflower 400 Leiden and consultant, specialising in public- private collaboration, entrepreneurial development and regional cultural policy

Plus additional mini-keynotes and panel discussions featuring Zoie Golding of ZoieLogic, Alys Scott-Hawkins of a space arts, Annie Reillyof Heritage Open Days, Nazneen Ahmed of Mayflower Folk and other projects, Clare Charlesworth of Historic England, Jennifer Anyan of Solent University, Prof. Sunil Manghani of Winchester School of Art, Dan Crow of God's House Tower/a space arts, Prof. Peter Lloyd of Solent University & Katie Daley Yates.


VENUES

The conference will span across two city centre venues: Nuffield Southampton Theatres City in the morning and The Spark, Solent University in the afternoon.

There will be an evening drinks reception at Solent Showcase Gallery.

TICKETS

The conference is open to everyone. Tickets are available for £20 (early bird), £25 (after 31 May) and £30 (after 20 June). Student tickets have been subsidised by the event partners and cost just £10. Please pre-book your tickets to secure your spot.

The ticket includes admission to all workshops, talks and panel discussions as well as refreshments.

STUDENT DELEGATES

We warmly invite students to join us and play a part in shaping culture in Southampton.

ARTISTS

We have ten bursaries to give to artists working within Southampton in return for their valued input into this event. Selected artists will receive £100 and VIP delegate passes to attend all events and then create a blog or visual output from the conference.

To apply for one of ten places, please email hello@culturesouthampton.org.uk with your CV and a one-page statement/visual telling us why you want to attend the conference and what Southampton means to your practice.
