Event description

Description

Over the last year the Coventry Cultural Education Partnership has been looking at what the future holds for Coventry's young people. This conference will celebrate the end of a successful first year and act as a launch pad for the next year of action for all creatives and educators!

This celebration will feature speakers from some of the UK's most inspirational creative learning projects, workshops to explore pedagogy and an invitation to contribute to the development of new approaches to creative learning in Coventry.

The keynote presentation will come from The Egg Theatre at the Theatre Royal, Bath’s School Without Walls project in collaboration with 5x5x5=creativity. School Without Walls is about doing school differently. It supports children and young people to be active citizens in their learning and in their community. The process offers a quality experience, in the heart of a cultural setting and across the city, where children and young people and adults undertake prolonged creative enquiry alongside each other, in real life contexts beyond the traditional confines of the classroom and curriculum.

There will be a chance to see case studies from Imagineer, Open Theatre, the Belgrade Theatre and Highly Sprung to show how effective partnerships can help children and young people to explore the curriculum and meet learning outcomes using a creative approach.

You will have the opportunity to come up with 100 Brilliant Ideas that will help every child and young person in Coventry to experience cultural learning activities that enable them to flourish, thrive and be optimistic about their futures.

And finally there will be a vintage picnic style tea from Top Nosh Food served during a plenary session which will hear a panel of Coventry Education, Arts, Heritage and Industry professionals discuss and articulate the CCEP’s vision for the future.

Arrival and registration from 1.30pm for a 2pm start.

Who's it for?

This event will offer you the chance to identify opportunities and challenges and help you understand how you can play your part in shaping the cultural landscape of Coventry for children and young people so if you are an artist, a head teacher or teacher, a youth or support worker, education specialist, community leader and you are interested in how cultural activity can enable better learning outcomes in a variety of settings, this event is for you!

What is the CCEP?

The Coventry CEP is a partnership between artists, teachers, educators, and cultural organisations who are interested in helping to shape the cultural future for young people in the city.

  • Coventry CEP’s mission is:

… to create more opportunities for Coventry's ‘learning’ and ‘cultural’ sectors to work together, improve the quality of activity and extend the reach and impact of cultural learning delivery for children and young people.

  • Coventry CEP’s vision is:

… that every child and young person in Coventry has the opportunity to experience cultural learning activities that enable them to flourish, thrive and be optimistic about their futures.

The work of the Cultural Education Partnership will contribute to the 5 goals of the Coventry Cultural Strategy but particularly Goal 2 of the cultural strategy that directly states …

Goal 2 (Lifelong learning): All children and young people have an entitlement to the arts and digital creativity in schools and in their community which is not limited by family income, location or age. There are opportunities for all generations to learn from and develop through the arts. Talent is recognised, developed and supported through to early careers in the cultural and creative industries and beyond.

The Coventry Cultural Education Partnership will act as a conduit for the ‘learning’ and ‘cultural’ sector to work together, hold a dialogue about cultural education, and will support and provide constructive challenge to the work of the Coventry Cultural Place Partnership.

Coventry CEP aims to ensure that every child and young person in Coventry has the opportunity to experience cultural learning activities that enable them to flourish, thrive and be optimistic of their futures.

We will work to ensure:

  • Coventry is an inclusive and fun cultural city where children and young people are excited about engaging with their diverse and dynamic communities
  • Talent (interests and passions) is recognized, developed, and supported from a young age to early careers in the cultural and creative industries and beyond
  • Information is shared in a clear and targeted manner
  • Impact is measured and understood and this information is used to inform future activities
  • Formal and Informal education providers and the cultural sector work in partnership to provide appropriate cultural opportunities for young people

In order that Coventry more children and young people are:

  • At the heart of cultural decision making; better able to navigate and influence their local cultural offer
  • Able to participate in a range of quality cultural education activities in a variety of settings
  • Aware of career and development opportunities
  • better able to navigate and influence their local cultural offer
  • Able to access cultural provision locally and across the city
  • Able to engage with cultural activity at school, with their families and friends, and in their communities
  • Able to see themselves in the cultural offer and those who deliver it

And So that we can see:

  • Cross sector Collaborations between artists, arts and cultural organisations, schools and communities to deliver targeted programmes based on needs assessments
  • Young people and teachers better able to identify appropriate cultural offers as a result of better communication of offers
  • Young people and educators are better able to commission and co-produce programmes of activity
  • Cultural and educational organisations working and planning together at a strategic level, influencing policy and practice
