Event description
Cultural Field: femxle footballers own the pitch

About this Event

Cultural Field: femxle footballers own the pitch is a public investigation that imagines the co-ownership and subsequent construction of a pitch for women and non-binary footballers.

Taking up the model of the Community Land Trust, potential stakeholders and experts will workshop possible scenarios and outcomes of forming a Community Land Trust as the first step in realising such a football pitch in London.

Understanding the football match as a common public moment, and the football pitch as a fraught “commons-of-sorts”, Cultural Field responds to the restricted access to football pitches for women and non-binary people. It considers a backdrop of London football pitches populated exclusively by men; block bookings for London football pitches stretching up to 30 years into the future, and resistance from London councils to adopt inclusive booking policies. Responding to this context, Cultural Field asks how a pitch for femxle footballers could be organised differently.

Investigating the possible material and cultural consequences of such an endeavour, this event employs speculation as the primary stage of a long term construction process.

Cultural Field is part of an ongoing research project inspired by Goal Diggers Football Club, undertaken in parallel with the commissioning of a major new performance by Rosa Johan Uddoh. It is brought to you by F.A.T Studio in association with curator Jessie Krish.
