Event description

Description

The power of the arts and culture to positively transform lives is widely recognised, as is the entitlement of every single person from every single sector of society to a cultural experience.

A leading cultural city has a diverse, flexible and integrated cultural and creative ecology and recognises, facilitates and capitalises on the important role of culture in achieving economic success and improving wellbeing for everyone.

The new Cultural Framework being developed by Brighton & Hove City Council in partnership with the Arts & Creative Industries Commission will set out ways in which the city’s creative community can best be supported, and work together. To do this we need YOUR voice in the conversation, so please join us at this one-day summit to have your say in the proposals.

Workshops

The key elements of the discussions around the Cultural Framework today have centred on the nature of Brighton, the challenge of inclusion, the opportunity of strengths in arts & wellbeing, the innovative model of Our Future City, and the notion of Brighton as a lodestone for the surrounding area and a place which could be more generous as a leader at sector, city and regional level. In the workshops, delegates will try to answer the questions below, on the themes of Living Well, Warm and Welcoming, Working Well, Leading Well and Well-Known. They will come up with ideas for quick wins, pilot projects, cases for investment and longer term ambitions, taking on board the output of the working groups to date.

  • What are our strengths and weaknesses?
  • Where do we need to develop our skills and raise our game?
  • How should we target our work to address inequality and be more inclusive (what do we need to know)?
  • How should we measure impact?
  • How could we co-ordinate ourselves better?
