An online workshop focusing on boosting your cultural competence and doing your most impactful work with BAMER families.

About this Event

This online workshop focuses on working with South Asian families and CSE concerns, specifically how to boost your cultural competence and explore cultural impacts and barriers to support for families, as well as barriers that can impede your own effective work.

Shantona's online workshops workshop are run over Zoom with interactive elements. You will be using real case studies to apply what you have learned during the day. We work with professionals to boost your cultural competence, challenge myths and strengthen practitioner’s knowledge and confidence to work effectively with South Asian communities and other communities of BAMER backgrounds.

This session is for anyone who works with young people and families and are looking to particular engage with the specific barriers BAMER people may face in regard to child sexual exploitation risk, support and family support. We work anyone who works with young people and families, from schools to social workers.

Overview

1. Introduction to CSE - a brief introduction to CSE and why taking an intersectional approach is important.

2. Factors and barriers- exploring the factors that can lead to south asian children becoming a CSE concern and understanding the barriers to support young people and families face

3.Our own practice: thinking about your own own biases and practice and how this may impede your impactful work with families

Delivery and PricingThe workshop is facilitated by 1 member of Shantona staff. We encourage teams from the same organisation to come and learn together as we can provide group discounts. On the day of the training we will email you the link to the online training so please ensure when you sign up, we have the right email address for you.

Shantona Women’s & Family Centre is an award-winning charity bases in Leeds, working with BAMER communities and families in Harehills, to create the best outcomes for their lives. Every year we support over 1500 women, girls and family members to build their independence and resilience in the face of domestic violence, poor health and child sexual exploitation.

We have extensive experience working with BAMER communities and shaping inclusive services since 1998. We have been sharing our learning since our inception and have been developing learning materials based on our 21 years of expertise.
