About this event

Health • Medical

Join the Cambridge University Medical Humanities Society (CUMHS) in association with the Association for Medical Humanities (AMH) for a one-day conference at Newnham College.

We are witnessing shifts in Medicine's identity. This conference is a space to interrogate these changes and collectively imagine a future for medicine that is both advanced and human.

Through a series of engaging talks, discussions, and interactive activities, we will delve into critical themes, including:

  • The Erosion of the "Hero" Narrative: Deconstructing the unsustainable idolization of healthcare professionals.
  • Technology's Double-Edged Sword: Examining AI, automation, and the tension between efficiency and empathy.
  • The Crisis of Meaning in Medical Training: Exploring burnout, disillusionment, and the search for purpose.
  • Medicine as Labour vs. Vocation: Questioning the structures that define medical work.
  • Reclaiming the Soul of Medicine: Envisioning a path forward that integrates humanity with technology.

This conference is aimed at students, practitioners, and anyone interested in the future of healthcare. Come be a part of this crucial conversation.

We look forward to welcoming you for a day of rich discussion and community.
