About this event

  • Event lasts 6 hours

Join us for a summer holiday hangout playing video games and meeting industry professionals in the tastiest networking event around!

We're teaming up with Samsung KX for the "Do I Look Like A Gamer?" campaign to invite young and aspiring game professionals to meet and connect with those in the industry for some fun and inclusive networking. This amazing opportunity will allow you to network with game developers and meet others as excited about games as you are!

We have planned lots of exciting activities to get you networking in a safe and inclusive environment. There will be consoles, PC and tabletop games available for casual play. For those who are more competitive, we've got a fun Game "Triathlon" planned where teams will go against each other for a chance to win great prizes from our campaign supporters.

“DO I LOOK LIKE A GAMER?”

The Cupcake & GamePad Social is part of our "Do I Look Like A Gamer?" video game representation campaign, first launched in 2022 and is now a yearly initiative to challenge stereotypes in gaming culture and industry. We are working to empower future generations of diverse talent and raise awareness of career paths in gaming. We also provide opportunities for aspiring professionals to develop key skills through inclusive, community-focused events like this one. We're making the campaign a yearly initiative continuing the push for diversity in games culture and industry!

Who Is This Event For?

This is an event for young and aspiring game professionals of all ages, backgrounds and gaming experiences to discover how to network and pick up these valuable skills for a bright future in video games.

If you have ever wondered how to get started with networking, this is the event for you. Event host Tazziii will be taking attendees through Networking 101 while we also get stuck into amazing cupcakes made by our friends at Kups Bakery.

You'll end the evening with your first steps in games industry networking under your belt and maybe even some contacts under your belt! Parents, guardians and carers are also welcome. It's important for those supporting the next generation of diverse talent to get a better understanding of the industry, so come and see what gaming is all about.

What To Expect

This is networking with a twist. You can expect a low-pressure environment to meet new people and satisfy your sweet tooth while playing video games.

Upon entry to Samsung KX, you'll be greeted by the mayamada team and given a token to collect your cupcake later in the day before getting to know other attendees and industry professionals. Our friends at Kups Bakery are supplying us with delicious cupcakes for the occasion. The first 50 attendees to arrive will receive a token redeemable for a cupcake during the event. Don't miss out, be sure to arrive early!

You'll also be invited to join one of four teams, each represented by a different coloured wristband. Get ready to join forces with your team members as you take part in various competitions throughout the event.

After taking some time to get to know everyone, we'll open up to casual gaming across Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch consoles. You'll get to discover exciting indie games while meeting the developers who created them! Plus, hop on and off popular titles including Mario Kart , Just Dance, Overcooked, Street Fighter 6 and more.

A selection of tabletop games will be available for casual play throughout the event. Bring your strategic thinking to the table as we host a Connect 4 tournament where each team will select a representative to compete in a double elimination bracket.

VIDEO GAME TRIATHLON

Then things will get competitive — we'll be hosting a "Video Game Triathlon," a team-based competition where groups compete across three different games for points and prizes. It's designed as a fun way for aspiring professionals and industry professionals to network over some friendly gaming competition.

All the while, you'll be able to see photos from the "Do I Look Like A Gamer?" campaign as we take over Samsung's 10-metre-wide curved screen to showcase the 40 players and makers taking part. You will also have the opportunity to get involved by taking your own photos too.
