Event description

Description

Ancient swords, a terrifying-looking throwing knife and a blackbird riddled with highly poisonous mercury – just a few of the more deadly objects to be found in the collections of the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester. Why do we have these, and many other curious objects such a miners pistol, and a unicorn horn, and for what do we use them? There are more than 50,000 museums worldwide and collectively they contain literally billions of objects. Each year, as part of their Masters degree in Museum Studies, we train hundreds of students how to interpret, care for and display the extraordinary range of objects to be found in museum collections. Visit us to see how objects ranging from bees to buses should be handled, labelled, packed, displayed and stored, without hurting them, or yourself.

The Museum Studies building is full accessible. Children accompanied by adults are welcome at this event.
