Event description

Description

A second joint event between Swiss Cottage and Frank Wise Schools

Following the success of our ‘Progression Puzzle’ conference in October 2015, ‘The Curriculum Conundrum’ will be the second collaborative event, organised jointly by two special schools that have been contributing to national dialogues on curriculum and assessment for SEND: Frank Wise (part of Oxfordshire Teaching School Alliance) and Swiss Cottage.

Like our previous ‘Progression Puzzle’ Conference, the ‘Curriculum Conundrum’ will be schools-led: It is taking place inside a school building, and includes insights from Middle and Senior Leaders from a range of ‘outstanding’ special schools including:
•    The Bridge, Islington
•    Woodfield School, Brent
•    Iffley Academy, Reading
•    Brookfields School, Berkshire

In addition, the event will feature:
•    A presentation from Flo Longhorne, reflecting on her extensive career in special education, and some of the different ideas about curriculum that she has worked within.  She will be joined by Dr Lee Humber, an historian of learning disability.
•    A keynote speech from Professor Barry Carpenter OBE, giving insights into pupils with complex learning difficulties and disabilities
•    A workshop with Peter Imray, SEND Consultant and co-author of ‘Curricula for Teaching Children and Young People with Severe or Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties’
