Overview
Curriculum in the Early Years
For: Childminders Only
Live Training Date - Wednesday 21 January 2026 - 18.30pm - 20.30pm
Ofsted is encouraging early years providers to use the early years curriculum as a progression model in which children know more, remember more, and are able to do more. This training will help you to explore curriculum planning, design, and development as outlined in DfE guidance, the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS), and Ofsted’s Best Start in Life resources. As a result, you and your teams will be better placed to understand and describe your intent, implementation, and impact.
Course aims and objectives:
- Confirm what is meant by ‘the curriculum’ in the EYFS.
- Show the distinction between curriculum which is ‘what children learn’, and pedagogy which is ‘how this is enabled’.
- Set out the key messages from DfE, Ofsted, and the EYFS.
- Provide guidance and support for curriculum design and development.
- Build on the importance of starting with the child.
- Explore the progression model of curriculum design and development.
Learning outcomes:
- Know the starting points for implementing and effective early years curriculum
- Understand how the four EYFS principles support an effective curriculum.
