Event description

Description

The nation that named a hurricane 'Bawbag' is home to some of the liveliest
invective in the world, so where better to take a seriously entertaining look at the history and the impact of cursing and swearing. Why do we hurl curses and hiss insults? Why deploy taboo language to make a point? Join super linguist Geoff Pullum – a man who knows his way around slurs and obscenities, and Joanna Kopaczyk – a woman who explores the linguistics of flyting, slander and cursing - to find out why we curse, swear and hurl abuse.
