Difficulty: Suitable for novice crafters. You should have a small amount of basic hand sewing experience. The way we teach our workshops is by breaking down every craft project into easy manageable steps. This means that even a beginner adult crafter can easily create something that looks very impressive that they can be really proud of and get great pleasure from.

Age range: This workshop is for adults and teens.

However, children aged 10-12 with particularly strong sewing and crafting skills for their age are also welcome to attend.

We try and make sure our workshops can be done with easy to source materials and items you might already have lying around at home or in your craft stash.

Materials needed for the main part of the workshop:

• Beads – a selection of seed beads and small beads.

• Felt in the same main colour as your design.

• Very thin needle.

• Thread in matching colours

• Sequins (optional)

• A notebook for taking notes (optional)

Materials needed to finish your design

• More felt or scrap leather to finish the back

• Brooch back / hair clip / jewellery findings / keyring

Top Tips for fabric and craft supplies.

We are big on repurposing and working with materials you already have. Especially because Covid-19 might make it hard for you to get to the shops. However, if you want some pointers below are recommendations online (UK) purchases for this workshop that are very good value for money and prove that crafting doesn’t need to be an expensive hobby.

Beads are something you might already have some of in your craft staff. Mixed selections of beads work particularly well for these small projects and can easily be purchased online.

Option 2

A good trick for finding tiny black beads very cheaply is to look for beaded eveningwear in charity or thrift shops. A black sparkly beaded top might provide you with all the beads and sequins you need to make a little bat brooch on a budget. Also look at jewellery in charity shops that can be taken apart.

Felt is an easy to find craft material available in every craft shop and online. Also remember that old real wool jumpers can be hot washed to make fantastic felt. Also look out for felt berets in charity shops that can be cut up for small pieces of felt.

Needles need to be really thin to fit through seed beads. If you don’t already have a tiny need these are small enough to go through most seed beads.

These workshops are wonderful sociable occasions with lots of laughs and stories shared. Shy people and chatty people are all welcome. Our workshop regulars come the first time for the crafts… and come back the second time for the creative social experience.

Don’t forget to come to this workshop armed with tea and biscuits. And if you want to come in your pyjamas go for it. It’s an online event after all.

See you there!
