The free guided tours taking place in St Andrew’s Cemetery, Peebles will give people living in or visiting Peebles the chance to discover the remarkable stories of the 46 men and women who died in the First and Second World Wars and are buried in the community as well as gain an insight into the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, past and current, local and global. Those commemorated include both Commonwealth casualties from WW1 and WW2 and members of the Polish Forces stationed in and around Peebles during WW2 and include a number of people who were local residents before their war service as well as those who came from out-with the area to serve in a variety of capacities. The tour will allow visitors to hear the stories of individual pilots, soldiers, sailors and a nursing sister. The cemetery also contains a small plot, a special section set aside in the cemetery for the war dead, and the tour gives visitors an opportunity to learn how these particular areas are cared for, both in Peebles and elsewhere.

Parking available in Neidpath car park just off the A72 next to the cemetery. No facilities , level ground, wheelchair accessible but some graves will require going over grass.

Public toilets in the park opposite the cemetery may be open following closure over the winter months.

Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.

The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
